Getting a taste for construction work

Tony Thompson Incommunities Construction Skills Training Manager

Last week, Incommunities’ construction training staff went on the road to promote apprenticeships to young people in Keighley.

They set up training rigs at Holy Family Catholic School to give local students a ‘hands on’ insight into different building skills including joinery, plumbing and plastering.

As well as giving the students a taster of construction work, the event provided a great opportunity for Incommunities to promote its award winning apprenticeship programme.

Nearly 50 young people took part in the training day with 25% female participants.

Tony Thompson, Incommunities’ Construction Training Manager, said: "As a group we are committed to promoting apprenticeships to people across our communities and help in tackling under representation, especially among women in construction roles.

"Hopefully, this latest taster event will inspire some of the young attendees to take a serious look at the many benefits of construction apprenticeships as a route into great careers."
